Research Your Business

Tips to Research your Business Idea

Choosing what kind of business to start can be an immobilizing task when confronted with the multitude of opportunities.

It’s important to determine where your passions lie and to understand your personality type. Equally important is what skills you bring to the table and whether you are entering a dying industry or a fast growing emerging business.
Using the analysis that you completed from “Strengths Finder”, list possible businesses to start.

Certainly there are always businesses that you can start on the cusp of a wave, but starting a business based on a trend can be a recipe for disaster.

To help narrow your search for a new business, ask yourself these five questions:
1. What is something that I do well that I like to do?
2. Is there a market for this business?
3. Can I afford to start this business?
4. What will distinguish my business or what is the Unique selling Proposition?
5. Can I make a satisfactory profit?

Decide What Products or Services you will be selling

The important thing is that you choose a business that fits your personality, is something you love, and can be successfully implemented with the resources available to you. If that means scaling your idea back a bit in the beginning, that’s fine. Once you get your baby off the ground, you can grow as much as you are able.
