Marketing with Twitter

Twitter is considered a micro-blogging service and is growing at a faster rate then any other Social Media website.

Every Twitter user basically has their own little “blog” comprised of messages that limited to no more than 140 characters in length. Each of these individual 140 character messages is known as a “Tweet”. All of your combined Tweets are considered a “timeline”.

While Twitter is a communication medium much like email or regular blogs, it is used in an entirely different way.

When someone “Follows” you, they are adding your Tweets to their personal timeline. So then every time you send a Tweet, your followers see it without the need to search for it. Every “Tweet” that you send out has the potential to reach an expanding “ripple” of people. People following you see it in their timeline and their followers can see it also.

The key to maximizing your success with Twitter is to gain followers who are interested in your Niche or business. The number of followers is not the important metric, it is the quality of followers that will reward your Twitter marketing efforts. You want to attract and communicate with people who have an interest in your product, your niche or your business.

As a Minipreneur looking to maximize your marketing efforts via Twitter, your Tweets should NEVER be about you personally. You want to attract followers based on your business, not on what you ate for breakfast or the toothpaste you use.

Technically speaking, you do not make money by Tweeting. You should use Twitter to develop a following of interested customers and potential clients. You want to become an Authority on your topic or in your niche by posting interesting links, asking pertinent questions, posting thoughtful and correct answers, handling customer service, etc. Do Not Spam, do NOT post incessant links to your product, do NOT blatantly push your product etc. Consider your Tweets exactly the same as if you were speaking face to face with a customer in your store.

Of course there are many tips, shortcuts and commands to help you use Twitter more efficiently. To explore all of the various Twitter lingo commands, visit this link: http://www.Twitter.com/help/lingo

To get started in Twitter after you have created your user bio, first send out 10 or 20 pertinent tweets. Then you should invite contacts who aren’t using Twitter and also find contacts who are already using Twitter so that you can start following them and also start getting people to follow you. Twitter has a nice invite and find feature that makes this very easy.

To help you develop a strategy for marketing your business using Twitter, here are a few tips to keep in mind:

Spend some time developing a reputation among your followers

Write a few articles for Ezine on current news topics, gossip, or trends. Tweet about your articles

Focus on sending out tweets that consist of current hot topics, people will notice them and essentially check out your profile to find out more about you and the products you sell.

Take an indirect approach to marketing instead of an aggressive route, such as a sales page, or list building campaign

People do not join social communities to be sold to, remember this so you can approach it from a less aggressive angle.
